The California Nebula, also known as NGC 1499, is a large emission nebula located in the constellation Perseus. It is named after its resemblance to the shape of the U.S. state of California.

The California Nebula is situated approximately 1,000 light-years away from Earth. It covers an area of about 2.5 degrees in the night sky, which is equivalent to approximately five times the size of the full moon.
